Asahi Kasei and Honda Sign Joint Venture Agreement for Production of Lithium-ion Battery Separators in Canada

Asahi Kasei Corporation (Asahi Kasei) and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (Honda) announced today that the two companies have signed a shareholders’ agreement to convert an existing Asahi Kasei subsidiary in Canada into a joint venture company. This agreement was reached as a result of continued discussions on collaboration for the production of lithium-ion battery separators in Canada based on the basic agreement the two companies announced on April 25, 2024.

Asahi Kasei to significantly expand coating capacity for lithium-ion battery separators

Asahi Kasei will invest in additional equipment for coating wet-process lithium-ion battery (LIB) separators. New coating lines will be installed at existing Asahi Kasei LIB separator facilities in the United States, Japan, and South Korea, with start-up scheduled in succession from the first half of fiscal year 2026.
